        Named for their shorter, smoother coats, Smooth-Coated Otters live in family groups with strong bonds between breeding pairs.

Size
       The India Smooth-Coated Otter is medium to large in size. Its head to body is 655 to 790mm. The tail is 406 to 505mm long. The whole length of the India Smooth-coated Otter is 1067 to 1300mm.

Feet
        The quite large sized feet of the India Smooth-Coated Otter have well developed webbing that is strong and thick with strong claws.

Hair
       The texture of the hair is velvety. Their guardhairs are 12 to 14mm long. Their underfur is 6 to 8mm long.

Color
        The India Smooth-Coated Otter is a raw umber to smoky gray brown color. They, like most Otters, have lighter bellies.

Nose

        The nose looks like a gray slightly squished diamond. The nostrils are on the sides of the lower portion of the nose.

Habitat
        The Smooth-Coated Otter lives in a variety of Asian habitats from mangroves to freshwater wetlands and large forested rivers. It requires undisturbed forest or scrub adjacent to the water for security.

Distribution and Population
        It lives in the southern half of Asia.

Food
        The India Smooth-Coated Otter likes to eat fish.
